I was in grade school when i watched the first Harry Potter movie. My friends who are brothers introduced me into the wizarding world, it was perfect actually they were two boys and i was the only girl and we always play roles and i will end up as Hermione, and we’ll play outside with sticks as our wands and we have this notebooks filled with magic spells and character names in the movie. As a child, Hogwarts was the ideal world since Harry started off as a kid too. It puts an idea into a child’s head that magic is somehow real. Children loves fantasy that is why it is never hard for the movie and novel to gain fans who grew up with story, who grew up with the characters and that attachment to something since we are kids is hard to let go.
But my favorites back then was the first and the fourth one. We could all agree that the first movie will always be the best cause it is where everything started, it is where we fell in love with wizarding world, with the characters and it is where we fell in love with the magic. The combination of kids and unlikely events is somehow appealing to any audience and let’s admit it we all had a crush on Draco when we were little and the tense we are having during the Sorting Ceremony and wondering what house where you’d be in if you are part of it, and the Quidditch is probably some of my favorite parts (i just love it, no questions).
Then there’s “Goblet of Fire”, then there’s Cedric Diggory but then he died, then love interests started showing and i started shipping Ron and Hermione, and then i started to love the Weasley Twins. The reason why i love this movie is because of the Triwizard Tournament, the challenges are hella crazy and how would a 14 year old accomplish it all right? well unless you are Harry Potter you can. Here we also had the glance of Voldemort coming to life, and the fight between him and Harry is magnificent just that part alone is really thrilling. And to know that a school for witchcraft and wizardry is all over the world, then why they don’t have it my country? come on. (lol)
As a kid i have watched all of the first five Potter movies, from “The Philosopher’s Stone”, “Chamber of Secrets”, “Prisoner of Azkaban”, “Goblet of Fire” and “Order of the Phoenix” and then that’s it. I never watched Harry Potter ever again, years pass and i somehow lost my thing for it, until 2011 where it all ended. I get all the news and excitement about it but i seem not to care anymore but don’t get me wrong i really was a fan when i was a kid but the last movie i watched was quite mature and i didn’t appreciated it that much. I felt like it was quite okay not to finish the series anymore, but there is still a piece of me that is sad to think i was never going to the end of Harry’s story, it was my childhood and not being able to finish it is like half of it is gone missing.
9 years have gone fast, i finished high school, a lot of things have happened and now i’m in my 3rd year of college. One day i borrowed my classmate’s hard drive to have a copy of some of the movies she had, and that thing was heavenly. Then when i started copying i saw a folder with ‘Harry Potter’ written on it then i clicked it and i saw all the 8 movies there and i was like ‘Hallelujah!’ (you know with the background music in it) and at last i’m going to finish the story and i even thanked my classmate for it cause i waited years and almost lost hope to get drawn on the wizarding world again. It was a miracle, well actually it was magic, a prophecy somehow.
I started watching it at 5 and now i finished it at 18 and I watched it all from the beginning. Watching Harry Potter in this age is different from watching it when i was a kid, it somehow gave you a different experience. When i was a kid all i’d care was magic, the school, learning to ride a broomstick, who’ll win the quidditch and how brave Harry Potter was. Harry is older than me when i started the series and when i finished it i was older than him, let’s just say i finished it at the right time, at the time where i needed it the most.
It wasn’t really a fantasy after all, it was real. It taught me that there really is light even in the darkest of times, even the most unlikely person you expect to be brave at times will step forward, and even the most unlikely person you expect to love have already loved you from the beginning. People will surprise you in between of circumstances and circumstances will surprise you in between of people, what they can do, how they did it, it’ll just surprise you. I guess the greatest love stories will never just occur between two people, that is the type of love that will last forever, and that is the type of love even greater than magic.
MAGIC NEVER ENDS.
